- New Traffic Manager modules:
- Real-time Analytics module – option for Zeus Traffic Manager: filter and inspect traffic in real-time to determine anomalies and traffic characteristics.
- Application Auto-Scaling module – option for Zeus Traffic Manager: based on service performance, automatically initiate scale-up or scale-down actions against supported virtual/cloud infrastructures.
- Feature improvements for Zeus Traffic Manager:
- TrafficScript language improvements – build and manage sophisticated traffic management policies, extending the capabilities and power of Zeus’ TrafficScript language with support for arrays, hashes (maps or ‘associative arrays’), code libraries and low-level network connections.
- Connection limiting – offloads concurrency to avoid connection timeouts and prevent the degradation in performance caused by overloading fragile servers with too many concurrent connections. Connection limiting respects the internal concurrency limits of applications by queuing transactions within the traffic manager.
- Reduced IP usage for fault-tolerance – enabling administrators to create fault-tolerant Zeus clusters without requiring unnecessary external IP addresses.
- Fine-grained configuration import and export – easy integration with external configuration management systems by exporting and importing the configuration for an individual service.

Deployment options
Zeus Traffic Manager may be deployed in the manner that best suits your needs: as software for Linux or Solaris servers, as a Virtual Appliance for many Virtualisation platforms and on any supported Cloud infrastructure platform including Rackspace Cloud, Joyent and Amazon EC2.
Zeus Elastic Application Delivery platform: When used with Zeus Multi-Site Manager, Zeus Traffic Manager may be used to manage traffic across multiple, distributed locations, and the Global Load Balancing option provides global traffic management to complement Zeus Traffic Manager’s local traffic management.
Processing and optimising application traffic
- Zeus Traffic Manager inspects and processes application traffic, with full payload inspection and streaming
- As requests are received, a range of optimisation processes ensure that they are presented in the most appropriate manner to the web or application servers.
- Responses can be compressed, cached and returned to the client at the speed it can manage, while freeing up resources on the server
- TrafficScript™ gives full control over how individual requests are optimised, routed and transformed.
- Traffic management rules may also be created using Java™ Extensions.
About TrafficScript™
TrafficScript™ is a sophisticated programming language, integrated within the core of Zeus Traffic Manager to give high performance, highly-configurable control of traffic management policies. TrafficScript™ rules can control all aspects of how Zeus manages traffic, based on full inspection of each application request and response. Request rate shaping, bandwidth shaping, routing, compression and caching can all be controlled to prioritise your most valuable users and deliver the best possible levels of service.
Using TrafficScript™, Zeus Traffic Manager can parse complex XML data using XPath and take informed routing decisions based on its content. Zeus supports the offload and acceleration of the translation of one dialect of XML to another via XSL Transformations (XSLT).
TrafficScript™ rules can also transform requests and responses, to correct invalid requests, apply security filtering and optimisation, and for complex response rewriting. TrafficScript™ is fully supported by Zeus, and examples are shared through the Zeus KnowledgeHub (knowledgehub.zeus.com).
Zeus Application Firewall Module
Zeus Application Firewall Module is an additional module for the Zeus Traffic Manager (Application Delivery Controller). It runs on the same server, and Zeus Traffic Manager 'hands off' requests and responses to the application firewall module for more detailed inspection and sealing according to a range of tests and security measures.
