Traffic Management
Traffic Management is a broad term which covers visibility and active management of network resources, effectively optimising network efficiency and gaining better user productivity. It is about performance of mission-critical applications such as SAP, Oracle and VoIP, and the restriction or containment of traffic which may be deemed to be non-critical to the organisation, such as peer-to-peer or social networking.
There can be several approaches to delivering the most cost effective and performant solution, some of which can work in parallel. Controlling who has access to the network and what resources they can use when they are on the network is the first step. Detecting, identyfing, then classifying and optimising all traffic flows that traverse the network can then be performed to ensure best performance and utilisation of resources.
