The SOLIDserver™ appliance suite from EfficientIP is designed to deliver high-performance hardware devices for critical IPAM-DNS-DHCP-NTP-TFTP services. SOLIDserver™ increases your network services availability, and provides vital benefits for performance, reliability, resiliency and security of the network services architecture.
The appliance suite is based on a wide range of hardware models to match requirements, from small branch offices, to the largest enterprises. SOLIDserver™ operates in a SmartArchitecture™ and can be deployed as a standalone unit or in HA pairs. SOLIDservers™ can be managed remotely from a SOLIDserver™ Master appliance through a powerful and user-friendly WEB interface.
The SOLIDserver™ operating system is reliable, manageable, scalable, and secure. It includes all required components and features to simplify deployment, management and cut operating costs:
- Built-in zero administration database: No Data Corruption, Errors, or Loss.
- Hardened Operating System.
- Embedded Stateful firewall.
- Network services: DNS (Domain Name System), DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), NTP (Network Time Protocol), TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol).
- System monitoring and log management.
Global High Availability for Absolute Service Continuity and Management
SOLIDserver™ delivers an unmatched level of reliability for your critical IP services with complete built-in high availability mechanisms to ensure a global continuity:
- Network services continuity with failover: SOLIDservers™ are the sole market solution that enables you to deploy an active-active network services redundancy in few minutes thanks to the SmartArchitectures™. This unique approach ensures the continuity of your network services without any risk of decreasing your service level agreement.
- Management continuity: SOLIDserver™
management continuity is ensured with built-in features enabling to deploy several SOLIDservers as centralized management appliances of your DNS and DHCP architectures, these are known as SOLID Masters. In case the primary SOLID Master fails, the recovery SOLID Master is activated in a few seconds without any service interruption of remote servers. - Network attachment redundancy: Two gigabit LAN ports enable to connect a SOLIDserver™ to either the same or different switches. In case of the active LAN port failed, the second LAN port takes over in less than one second.
- Hardware platforms redundancy: Almost all SOLIDserver™ hardware platforms are delivered with hot-swappable critical components to ensure the highest level of hardware reliability.
Built-In Data Replication Mechanisms for Backup, Restore and Disaster Recovery Planning
SOLIDserver™ has a local embedded database with integrity control mechanisms which requires no ongoing maintenance. The local database of all SOLIDserver™ appliances can be replicated in real time on an appliance called SOLID Master. The database replication includes the entire service, network and system configurations of the appliances. In this way, the DNS and DHCP architecture is its own backup architecture. In addition, backups can be done on a FTP server.
A high availability mode of the SOLID Master can be deployed by electing another SOLID Master in recovery mode. In case the primary SOLID Master fails, the recovery SOLID Master is activated in a few seconds without any service interruption of remote servers.
Security
SOLIDserver™ appliances are designed for optimum security. EfficientIP appliances offer advanced features to secure DNS-DHCP services, from the server level to the complete architecture model:
- SmartArchitectures™ ensure enforcement of security best practices.
- Hardened operating system which includes only required services with the minimal open ports.
- Integrated stateful firewall, dedicated to network services flows and service management, consolidates the security level by checking and limiting exchanges to only authorised traffic.
- Ease of upgrades to support the latest versions of BIND and DHCP to ensure minimum exposure to security threats.
- Denial of Service protection: EfficientIP has embedded Intelligence in its SOLIDserver™ appliance to analyze DHCP request behavior and identifying inappropriate client requests to inform network administrators. SOLIDserver™ then prevents interruption of DHCP services by ignoring bad requests.
- DNS cache poisoning attacks Protection: EfficientIP’s SOLIDserver™ appliances include defense mechanisms that will preserve your DNS architecture against cache poisoning attacks. DNS cache poisoning attacks are mitigated by randomizing the DNS source port and transaction ID of DNS queries to eliminate DNS ID spoofing risk. Additional protections include dropping inbound queries related to zones that are not associated with the organization’s domain.
- Dedicated network interfaces for network services, management, and backup.
- Centralized logs.
Web-Based GUI
SOLIDserver™'s GUI is 100% web based. Thanks to the choice of standardised and widespread technology, the deployment and updates of the clients are easy, instantaneous and at no cost. There is no dependency between the web client and SOLIDserver™ appliances.
The GUI can be used to manage an appliance locally but also to manage remote appliances or multi-vendor DNS and DHCP servers from a central SOLIDserver™ appliance. EfficientIP's GUI enables the management of all kinds of administration tasks from IPAM, DNS and DHCP to system management including updates, backups, disaster recovery, and monitoring.
Unified and Automated IPAM-DNS-DHCP Management
SOLIDserver™ ensures a dynamic and integrated management of IPAM with DNS and DHCP services in a single process, ensuring the highest level of quality and efficiency. The tasks of network administrators are therefore dramatically reduced and simplified.
For instance, it is possible to create a /24 subnet, in one operation, with IP ranges allocated to DHCP service. All configurations will be carried out automatically by SOLIDserver™ and will configure DNS and DHCP services according to specified options.
