Networkshop 38, University of Manchester
Networkshop is an annual event organised by JANET(UK) and hosted by a Higher Education organisation. It is the established and unrivalled technical event on the academic conference calendar and attracts experts from across the UK. Aimed at network managers and technical staff from the JANET community, the conference provides a forum for discussion on the latest network technologies and brings together expertise from all the fields of networking.
This year, Networkshop was held at University Place, The University of Manchester from the 30th March to the 1st April. JANET(UK) is very grateful for the support of The University of Manchester and Net North West for hosting Networkshop 38 and for making the event possible.
IP Performance were delighted to once again be exhibiting, and to be sponsoring a conference session, this time from our DNS, DHCP and IP Address Management (IPAM) vendor partner Bluecat Networks:
Presentation – “IP Address Management on hardware and VM, the Best of Both Worlds”. Our presentation, hosted by Mike Baker, Sales Manager, was given by Simon Lowery from Bluecat Networks; this was extremely well-attended and clearly sparked some interest in this area.
Networkshop is traditionally a busy event for IP Performance, and this year at the University of Manchester was no exception. As was the case at the recent UCISA Management Conference, we gave away a number of prizes to winners of our University-themed general knowledge quiz, our top three being Tomo from the London Business School, winner of our TV; Ben Biggie from Cardiff University collecting a Tomtom; and Stephen Kershaw from the University of Manchester winning a photo frame.
Our drinks and quiz evening was again very well supported with over 50 people turning up at the historic Briton’s Protection pub in the centre of town. The quiz - this year almost entirely eliminating Googling (or ‘cheating’) altogether - comprised a set of challenging brain-teasers. The quiz proved harder than last year’s in Cambridge, with more thinking and less drinking giving rise to a much smaller bar bill! The winners of t-shirts, St Patrick’s Day hats and various other pub-related memorabilia were Tom Whitehouse and Richard Fuller from the University of York, followed by mixed teams from the Universities of Bradford, Manchester, and others.
Next year’s Networkshop will be held at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, between the 12th and the 14th April, and we look forward to seeing everyone again there.
