Why a software appliance?
An EfficientIP software appliance is an image of a hardware appliance (e.g. ISO) which can be installed either on a dedicated standard server or on a VMWare ESX server as a virtual appliance.
With virtualisation, you can install multiple Operating Systems and therefore several applications on a single server without suffering from compatibility issues. As the applications are isolated from one another, if one of them crashes, the others are not affected. Virtualisation brings you flexibility in the management of your applications, services availability and a reliable disaster recovery solution. It reduces the number of standard machines, streamlines hardware management and logistics, and so offers a quick ROI. EfficientIP benefits from a strong partnership with VMware, the leading virtual solutions provider, ensuring its virtual appliances are fully compatible and will run seamlessly on virtual machines.
With a dedicated standard server, you can install your appliance on hardware from your usual vendor. Therefore, you can benefit from your vendor’s hardware services, including global presence and reactivity (quick machine replacement, local support etc.).
