IP Performance fielded 2 karts in the "Telecoms Industry Go Karting Night" at Team Sport Karting in Bristol last night. Kart number 11 comprised Nigel Morgan, Philippe Roels and Matt Dadd while number 12 was occupied by Andy Foukes, Steve Bellingham and Dan Hunt.

Qualifying comprised a 15 minute session where all 3 drivers in each kart had to take time out on track. Nigel Morgan set the fastest time in kart 11 giving them 9th on the grid while Dan Hunt set a 36.8 second lap to secure kart 12 the second fastest time and a place on the front row. The race itself was a 90 minute endurance event where the drivers sharing each kart would split the time between themselves. Initial strategic plans involved a single 30 minute session each but sore arms and backsides after qualifying saw this hastily modified to two 15 minute sessions each.
Matt Dadd and Dan Hunt took the grid start for their teams but the race was almost immediately red-flagged as Hunt's kart stalled on the line and the remainder of the grid piled into the back of him. After 3 attempts to restart the kart by the marshals, Hunt was finally able to return to the reformed grid and the green lights illuminated once more. This time the whole field took-off successfully and the racing began. Dadd was black-flagged near the start of the race for overtaking under yellow flags and lost several places while he served his penalty. However, once back on track he fought hard to regain them before handing over to Morgan. Meanwhile, Hunt maintained second place with ease while the leaders pulled away through "creative" interpretation of the yellow flags.
Morgan battled through his stint gaining kart 11 another place before handing over to Roles who in turn pulled their team up to 5th. Bellingham took over from Hunt and enjoyed an exciting run in kart 12 fighting his way through back markers. However, disaster occurred at the changeover with Foukes when he fell out the back of the kart in the pitlane injuring his back and causing the race to be red-flagged. Two worrying minutes passed by while the marshals checked he was okay before allowing him to stand up and return to the spectating area. The race was restarted and Foukes blasted out the pits to rejoin the battle.
As the chequered flag fell, Morgan brought kart 11 home 5 places up on their start position, rewarding the team with a superb 4th place a mere 8 seconds away from 3rd. Bellingham brought kart 12 home in 2nd place where the team had remained consistently for almost the entire race. Both teams had a great time and are keen to hit the track again for a rematch, or even an all-IP Performance battle!
