Bandwidth Management
Bandwidth Management is a subset of Traffic Management and Performance Management, and defines a software or hardware system (or systems) that can prioritise communications by allowing high-priority traffic to use more available bandwidth in the network than lower-priority data. This can be effected through Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), identification, classification and the applying of QoS metrics to prioritise and shape network traffic according to per-application and per-user/subscriber policies.
There can be several approaches to delivering the most cost effective and performant solution, some of which can work in parallel. Controlling who has access to the network and what resources they can use when they are on the network is the first step. Detecting, identyfing, then classifying and optimising all traffic flows that traverse the network can then be performed to ensure best performance and utilisation of resources.
IP Performance works with several leading vendors to deliver these solutions.
